Letter of the Day | Crack down on windscreen washers
THE EDITOR, Sir:
I have become concerned about the growing number of sellers and windscreen wipers at some of the traffic lights in the busy intersections of Kingston.
While I understand that everyone is trying to 'eat a food', I see where, if some controls are not put in place, disaster looms.
While a few vendors ply their goods from the sidewalks, most others walk between the traffic, making it very difficult for motorists to manoeuvre around them. The most imposing group of all is the one that bombards motorists to wipe their windscreens. Oftentimes when the motorists refuse, they are properly cursed out by the windscreen wipers.
I have found this most disgusting and abusive, as I have been told what and what to go and suck simply because I object to them wiping my windscreen..
Invasion of space
Some of these windscreen wipers even go as far as pressing their lips on my window as if they are trying to kiss me through the glass - an act that nauseates me.
This has forced me to be taking longer routes to my destinations just to avoid the intimidation and disgust that might force me to do something drastic.
I am imploring the authorities to remove these windscreen washers from the streets and not to wait until more blood is shed or until someone dies before addressing this matter. The incident that occurred on Thursday at the Sovereign Centre traffic light was most unfortunate.
