Demise of the legal system in the new millennium

THE EDITOR, Sir:

There is the usual argument of the hypocrisy relating to the distaste for poor people music (dancehall) and its trappings, versus the embrace for elite music (soca) and its paraphernalia.

But the stronger argument here, I believe, is the integrity of “professional credentials”.

These young potential lawyers are the “standard bearers” of the law, therefore, while this was a “law contest, etc.”, they simply cannot overlook the perceptions, implications and likely common laws which can arise from what is posted in the public space. Also, and most importantly, how can they as lawyers overlook their very own “well established, etched in stone” governing cannon of professional ethics and rules?

Even before beginning their professional careers, they are already making themselves into “potential candidates to be disbarred”.
