Injustice of water disruption

THE EDITOR, Sir

Sometime ago I saw in a comedy where a character renamed the N.W.C to mean ‘No Water Coming’. I found it quite funny but little did I know that was going to become my reality decades later.

Jamaica, land of wood and water, has not been living up to its name for quite some time. Mandeville, Portland, and Kingston are all experiencing water problems due to poor infrastructure or insufficient capacity. One would think that before we took on such an elaborate road upgrade in the Corporate Area, we would have at least build another dam, upgrade distribution infrastructure and we would have had more water than we need.

I’m a resident living off Hope Road in Kingston. I’m trying to find the words to express the great discomfort and injustice that the NWC and the relevant authorities have placed upon us. We have been having water problems for the greater portion of the last five months and every time we call the National Water Commission, it’s another excuse given for the source of the disruption.

This reminds me of when you lend your delinquent cousin some money and every time you see them, they have another excuse as to why they don’t have your money. What is really going on?
