Death trap on North Coast Highway

THE EDITOR, Sir:
A serious death trap lurks on the north coast expressway. This is located a few hundred metres after one comes off a descent travelling eastwards on the Rio Bueno bypass.
If my memory serves me correctly, this trap falls within a stretch of road where the speed limit is 80 kilometres per hour.
This trap takes the form of a diagonal ditch which stretches for the entire width of the road where it is located, which could easily cause an unsuspecting motorist to either overturn or to lose control of his/her vehicle.
Why I think no tragedy has yet struck, thank God, is because most motorists who ply this road are aware of the danger spot. Also, the spot is located roughly in the middle of a gentle curve where most motorists invariably reduce their speed.
Others who are unfamiliar might not be as lucky, however.
I plead with the National Works Agency and the member of parliament for the constituency within which this spot falls, until this spot can be repaired, to set up caution signs 400m from both approaches, which read: “DANGER! DEFECTIVE ROAD SURFACE AHEAD.”
