Bunting is an opportunist
THE EDITOR, Sir:
I found Garnett Roper’s recent commentary (‘The delegates will speak back’, Sunday Gleaner, September 1, 2019) amusing at best. I also read the commentary by Gordon Robinson (‘Whither PNP?’, Sunday Gleaner, September 1, 2019), which I found that to be more believable.
Peter Bunting appears to have been doing nothing but scheming all this time. From what I have observed, he has done nothing whatsoever to help the present leader of the People’s National Party (PNP) to succeed. He has spent more time building his profile with the electorate with his social media reach. The man is an opportunist, and having listened to him, I have found him just as lacking as Peter Phillips in his ability to inspire.
Will he win? Possibly. Will anything change in terms of the PNP’s winnability? I very much doubt it. On the other hand, this may very well do for Phillips what Audley Shaw’s challenge did for Holness, put some fire and oomph in his belly.
Somehow I see Phillips winning, and if he does he will become prime minister, for the simple reason that there is an economic tsumani on the way and there is no way the JLP will be able to call an election before it happens, as they want to get all the infrastructure projects finished before doing so. By then, Jamaica will be swamped in debt.
I wonder what the Chinese will do – take control as compensation?
Anyway, I’m sitting here in Europe waiting for my chance to buy up Jamaica on the cheap. I missed the FINSAC boat, but I won’t be missing this one.
