Patois’ only strength is oral storytelling

THE EDITOR, Madam:

I think the main problem with academics is that they have little or no experience with employing uneducated people. Any business person will complain that it is almost impossible to translate any kind of conceptual thinking or precise technical detail to anyone whose sole means of communication is Patois.

Patois’ only strength is as an oral storytelling language and has almost no value in the arena of technology or commerce.

Irony

However, I think the greatest irony of ‘foolinish’ like the Patois Bible is that in order to have the ability to understand it, one almost has to be a scholar of grammar and phonetics, which is about as far away as possible from the people it is allegedly designed for.

Maybe more time should be spent discussing the shameful literacy rate of our high school graduates that put them at a disadvantage in the global marketplace instead of focusing on petty political manoeuvring.
