Tracks and Records is a safe, entertaining space

Published:Monday | January 6, 2020 | 12:23 AM

THE EDITOR, Madam:

We have read the article ‘Patrons at risk! – Jamaica Fire Brigade says entertainment spots breaching safety standards’ published in The Gleaner on December 24, 2019.

We are disappointed that The Gleaner would publish an article that produces certain inferences within the general public regarding Usain Bolt’s Tracks and Records compliance with fire-safety standards. The assertions and inferences in the article that Usain Bolt’s Tracks and Records is in violation of the fire-safety standards are categorically untrue.

While the article concedes that further checks were made of the Jamaica Fire Brigade of certification, we are concerned that the headline; the photograph of a concert held at the Tracks and Records restaurant, and the sweeping generalisation that of the restaurants visited “most appeared to be in violation” suggest and produce inferences to the wider public that Tracks and Records is in violation of fire-safety standards and certifications.

As part of our company policy, we take fire-safety compliance very seriously.

We wish to clarify and correct the article, and advise as follows:

n There is a fire extinguisher located at the entrance of the restaurant, which is in direct contrast with the assertions made in the article.

n There are various fire extinguishers around the restaurant. In fact, we have at the restaurant seven 10lb ABC fire extinguishers and two 10lb carbon dioxide fire extinguishers, also in contrast with the assertions in the article.

n There are emergency escape routes, fire pulls, which are also in contrast with the article.

n We have worked very closely with the Jamaica Fire Brigade (JFB) prior to opening in April 2011.

n We have complied with all of JFB’s requests to ensure full compliance.

n We have been inspected and passed every year and the current certificate issued in March 2019 is framed and in full sight in the restaurant’s office, and has not expired.

n The only documentation the JFB asks us to display at the front are the emergency numbers, to which the article makes reference.

We thank the public for your continued patronage, as we provide a safe and entertaining space for the public to visit.
