KingAlarm operations firm
THE EDITOR, Madam:
I write in reference to a recent story published in The Gleaner, ‘Runaway staff cause KingAlarm to ground visa letters’, published on January 30, 2020, which makes reference to an internal company memo, wherein KingAlarm had taken a decision to temporarily suspend recommendation letters for staff addressed to certain diplomatic missions until further notice and for reasons stated.
Having taken note of some of the concerns and comments expressed, I write to clear the air on the matter and to correct one particular false suggestion contained in your story, which was attributed to an unnamed source.
Contrary to what was alluded to, there is certainly no area of the company that has been “left stranded”, wherein persons have to be “doubling up”.
KingAlarm currently has in excess of 3,000 personnel on staff and if, in fact, five persons chose to migrate – as your unnamed source suggests they had – this certainly would have absolutely no impact on our operations which continue to function seamlessly, to the benefit of our valued clients.
I also want to highlight the clear distinction between a ‘job letter’, which we continue to routinely provide for all staff addressed to a variety of institutions – including embassies/diplomatic missions – to aid them in the conducting of their personal business; and a ‘recommendation’ letter – which is what was referenced in the internal memo your story cited.
The latter, clearly not a legal obligation for any company or individual, is always offered on a case-by-case basis and at the discretion of whomever is issuing the said recommendation.
REGRET NO COMMENT
In closing, I was in fact asked by your reporter last week to provide a comment for her story, and I chose not to do so in light of the fact that I felt this to have been an internal matter, and it would not be the norm for me to discuss such matters in the public domain.
In hindsight, I now regret not having done so at the time, realising that this would perhaps have avoided any misunderstanding that the said story has seemingly caused.
