Letter of the Day | Easter – a time of reflection for humanity
THE EDITOR, Madam:
Each year, the world celebrates Easter as a time to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ on the third day of the crucifixion. More important, Christians around the world celebrate this time by attending church events, observing this holiday as part of their religious culture. Easter is a time of Lent and persons from varying cultures try to shed their old ways by partaking in religious practices which they believe will renew their faith. However, let us remember this Easter as a time of remembrance for the unfortunate persons around the world.
For instance, Easter should be a time of reflection for many persons in many ways. From a regional standpoint, many persons have lost their loved ones due to crime. Let us take the opportunity to remember their families who have lost their loved ones during the course of this year at the hands of gunmen. Farther afield, let us remember Ukraine at this time because so many lives have been lost unnecessarily due to the Russian invasion and millions of families displaced.
Let us reflect on those remaining citizens of Ukraine who will be facing the aggressor’s artillery in the coming days as Russia prepares its onslaught on the eastern part of the country. Let us also take time to reflect on the citizens of South Africa who have lost many loved ones in the recent devastating flooding this week. Let us all pray for them at this time in their hour of need.
