Jamaica needs to keep pace in using special envoys

THE EDITOR, Madam:

This is with reference to the editorial ‘Hunker down on Haiti’ published on Sunday, May 21. The editorial is calling for Prime Minister Andrew Holness to put into practice the leadership of CARICOM on Haiti and other regional issues that is often talked about, indeed demanded, which has not been the reality for a long time. The idea to use the services of a special envoy from among former diplomats with the appropriate experience is a concept which Jamaica has not kept pace with.

It is long overdue and could add significantly to the Jamaican Government’s standing on the regional and international stages.
