Christianity is truth

THE EDITOR, Madam:

It is marvellous to me to note that one of the crucial points for the proof that Christianity is truth is the fact that Jesus’s disciples ran away and left Him when they saw the mortal danger he was in after his betrayal by Judas and his arrest by up to 500 armed men.

The disciples realised that, by hanging around him, they, too, would be scooped up in the net, so to speak.

The well-known story of Peter’s denials of Jesus, even to the point of swearing, is outlined in the Gospel of John. Eager and zealous Peter who had sworn never to deny the Lord did just that. He shed bitter tears of regret later on.

Those disciples had every right to be scared for their lives. They probably, in addition to feeling scared, had dwindling faith, seeing their Leader at such a disadvantage.

For me, the big sweet thing is what caused those scared, confused disciples to become men who were later described as having “turned the world upside down”. Nothing but the Resurrection of Jesus!!! They saw Him alive ... after they had seen Him buried!

Such a momentous happening would make anyone stand to attention!

The Empty Tomb.
