The desertion of reason
THE EDITOR, Madam:
If hilarity were the offspring of folly, derision would be industry of the prudent. Russia’s Mr. Putin initiates a campaign of warfare against his neighbour, Ukraine. Ukraine in one of its most recent responses, reportedly destroys over 40 war planes of Mr. Putin’s demonstrative enmity. Mr. Putin characterises the retaliation as terrorism. Whenever conscience is silenced and morality takes flight, no one is left accountable to reason.
The president of Burkina Faso halts the resource depletion of his country by, in particular, a well documented vampire. The “vamp” calls the ceasing/cessor of resource, looting (and) ingratitude.
Hamas constitutes in governance of Gaza. It possibly counselled itself of unsatisfied objectives in the absence of an independent state for Gazans and launches a multi-pronged pre-emptive attack against Israel.
It might not be far-fetched to think that Hamas could have deliberately placed hostages, dead or alive, in the path of Israeli response to achieve a construct of irony. Nor is it incredible that Hamas draws Israeli fire towards civilians, among whom they may from time to time have sought to camouflage their presence and operations.
Hamas in attacking Israel as it did, could hardly have had in mind the people it purports to represent. The objective of the attack, whatever that was, could not have assumed victory over the Israelis given their superior war machine and the unqualified support of the USA. Though evidently surprised by Hamas, Israeli forces mobilise instantly.
The bombardment converts the Strip into rubble. Non-combatants, including children and women, medical as well as aid and rescue personnel, journalists reporting on the war, are casualties. Essential facilities and services are routinely destroyed.
Should this piece be published, be it understood that the writer targets no other readership but relational Christians.
It is to reinforce understanding that the Sovereign Lord God is immutable. His word is therefore unchangeable. So too His WORD concerning Israel and the peace of Jerusalem. Remember, your mandate concerning Israel and your prayers for that peace, secular Israel notwithstanding.
We pray for them who the Lord God identifies as it is written at Isaiah 45: ‘my servant Jacob, Israel my elect’. Israel of such contemplation cannot ever be pariah to the relational child of God in Lord Jesus Christ. Know also, that He who is no respecter of persons says: ‘V engeance is mine, I will repay’.
