Honouring our heroes
THE EDITOR, Madam:
Heroes Day has come and gone. The Heroes will soon be forgotten as the world turns its attention to war and mental health challenges and more.
To honour our National Heroes we need to ensure that their birthplaces and the roads to get there are properly maintained. We should be able to visit these places with our children and grandchildren to show where those who sacrificed their lives for the country and stood up for justice were raised.
A hero is someone who we admire for their courage and achievements especially in this case in the service of this nation. The care of the birthplaces and homes of the heroes should not be the responsibility of their families but of the Government and its institutions.
