Celebrating parents

Published:Saturday | November 8, 2025 | 12:06 AM

THE EDITOR, Madam:

In the wake of Hurricane Melissa, our landscape is marked by devastation and our hearts are heavy with loss. It is in these challenging times, however, amid the rubble and the recovery, that I wish to extend a profound and heartfelt Happy Parents’ Month to every parent on our beloved rock.

This Parents’ Month, we must acknowledge the strength of our parents in the storm’s aftermath. They have been the first responders, the crisis managers, and the emotional anchors for our children. They have modelled courage in the face of fear, and perseverance in the face of exhaustion. The lessons they are teaching about grit, compassion, and community, are forging the character of the next generation in real time. The recognition they deserve is not for the celebratory dinners or gifts that might have been, but for the incredible fortitude, love, and leadership they have demonstrated.

To all parents: we see you. We thank you. Your quiet heroism has not gone unnoticed. Wishing you a Happy Parents Month. Your strength forms part of the foundation upon which we will all rebuild.
