Reputational damage from artificial intelligence

Published:Monday | January 12, 2026 | 12:05 AM

THE EDITOR, Madam:

I am writing to air a serious and growing trend in social media relating to people being defrauded in which serious reputational damage was sustained to their personage and professional practice.

As an aggrieved recipient of the damage being done to me by social media and artificial intelligence. I feel it is my bounded duty to once again sound the alarm about artificial intelligence.

In speaking to persons over the festive season about my own experience, I did not quite realise the number of persons who were adversely affected by artificial intelligence, as person after person reported of distortion of facts about their persona, in which clips, statements, fictitious and pictorial images and videos were falsely attributed to them.

Consequently, I feel it incumbent upon me to sound the alarm and to warn persons again of the harmful effects of social media.
