J1 teachers in a limbo

THE EDITOR, Madam:
I am writing to raise concern about an issue affecting many J1 teachers who are currently in a state of uncertainty due to delays in receiving a response No Objection Letter applications. Teachers like myself and others find themselves in the same difficult situation.
Since applying for my No Objection Letter in November 2024, I have yet to receive any form of response–neither an approval nor a rejection. As our contracts near completion, this lack of communication has placed us in a challenging and stressful position.
We fully understand and respect the process, and we are prepared to return home if required. However, what we are asking for is clarity. Without a decision, we are left in limbo, unable to make necessary and time-sensitive arrangements. We must plan for major life transitions, including cancelling leases, selling vehicles, and packing up our belongings to relocate. These are not decisions that can be made overnight, and the absence of an official response makes it nearly impossible to move forward responsibly.
This impacts families, livelihoods, and professional commitments. Many of us have dedicated our time and skills to supporting education, and we simply ask for timely communication in return.
We respectfully urge the relevant authorities in Jamaica to address this matter with urgency and provide clear responses to pending applications. Whether the decision is approval or denial, having an answer allows us to plan accordingly and move forward with dignity and preparedness.
