The inaugural staging of the Police Civilian Oversight Authority’s Honourable Oliver F. Clarke Memorial Lecture on Civilian Oversight of Law Enforcement left a favourable impression on its hundreds of patrons.
Spanning the corporate, civil service, academia, and community-development circles, students and attendees were held in rapt attention to the lecture presentations of American guest speakers Dr Shon Barnes, the chief of police in Seattle, and Marcia Thompson, assistant professor of criminal justice at Aurora University in Illinois and an attorney-at-law, who addressed the event’s theme, ‘Partnerships for Progress: Improving policing through effective oversight for a safer Jamaica’.
Something Extra takes you inside the lecture held on Wednesday in the ballroom of The Jamaica Pegasus hotel in New Kingston.
