As Jamaica celebrates ‘Emancipendence’, Annakay Williams, owner and designer of CAW Accessories, has pulled on the patriotic colours of the island’s flag – black, green and gold – with the brand’s Culturally Aware ‘CAWlection’.

For Williams, these statement-making pieces are just what women hoping to show their national pride need for the season. “Woven into [the Jamaican woman’s] DNA is a rich heritage of resilience that empowers us to show up boldly anywhere in the world and in any sphere of influence,” she told Living. “We have women who are trailblazers in sports, corporate leadership, entrepreneurship, entertainment, politics, and media. The beauty is, they do it all with undeniable style and flair.”

Available in four styles – the Hibiscus Flair, Glamflair, Snatch and Keep, and Madame Obi – these vibrantly bold, handcrafted belts instantly elevate an outfit or add a statement touch to outfits such as a denim ensemble, jumpsuit or bodycon dress.

“The ‘CAWporate’ babes could even create playful looks by pairing them with their oversized blazers. Or add a touch of elegance in accentuating semi-formal or even formal dresses. The versatility that these statement belts afford is remarkable, and the styling possibilities are endless,” the designer added.

Williams always knew that the use of texture and colour would make her belts a masterpiece. And it was a no-brainer to add the rich colours of the Jamaican flag and make an even bolder statement.

“We officially launched on July 25, and these 876 designer belts form part of our Culturally Aware ‘CAWlection’. The sizes range from extra small to extra large, and the response so far has been positive and encouraging,” she shared.

Williams shared that it is important as Jamaicans to take style to new levels, especially when it comes to showing patriotic pride this season.

“Our culture is a masterpiece forged through triumph and diversity. It is reflected in our patois, the dances we’ve created, the reggae and dancehall songs we’ve produced, the food we’ve perfected, and the athletes we’ve produced. It is this legacy that fills us with pride and a strong sense of identity. So we should continue to celebrate this radiant expression in fashion as well,” she said.

She hopes that every custodian of this Jamaican accessory will not only raise their personal style standard but also bravely carry a bold expression of Jamaican heritage.

“Our new customer can expect authentic interaction with this ‘CAWlection’; a warmth and a strong sense of care and empowerment. For our women, she will be reminded that she is confident and authentic,” said Williams, pulling on the acronym for the brand, Confident Authentic Woman.
