The fashion world’s eyes are currently trained on New York Fashion Week (NYFW).
Amid the Big Apple’s buzzworthy shows for the spring/summer 2026 collection reveals, Jamaica is playing for keeps on the runways with homegrown designers and models making their presence felt.
GREAT SCOTT!
Just as newly appointed Proenza Schouler creative director Rachel Scott revealed the flourishes she will bring to the New York-based brand with the unveiling of the new collection last Tuesday, news dropped that she was a repeat nominee for the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) American Womenswear Designer of the Year award for her Diotima brand. She will compete against Ralph Lauren, Tory Burch, Wes Gordon for Carolina Herrera, and Daniella Kallmeyer at the CFDA’s 2025 Awards set for November 5 at the American Museum of Natural History.
The Jamaican-American designer told fashion industry journal Women’s Wear Daily backstage at the Proenza show her vision for the brand she will oversee: “I’m thinking about their clothes, but thinking about ways to use my love of artisanal handwork and craft and reinterpret it a bit.”
Meanwhile, Scott’s five-year-old Diotima brand is set to showcase its new seasonal collection tomorrow, September 15.
THEOPHILIO’S ‘BASHMENT’ VIBE
The Rock’s Edvin Thompson, founder and creative director of the Theophilio brand, closed the first official day of NYFW with his show last Thursday.
Finding inspiration in his ‘Bashment’ summer party, held in commemoration of Caribbean Heritage Month each June, which he hosts, Thompson wanted the vibe of the event to colour his latest work.
There were striped tracksuits, sequined bikinis and briefs, bright minidresses, which leaned into his distinctive aesthetic.
MODEL NATION
Two models. Two New York runway first-timers.
Model Davina Bennett, who has been documenting her hard-fought dream for her social media followers to book an NYFW show, made her runway debut for Haitian designer Waina Chancy’s Atelier Ndigo collection. The fashion show took place at Harlem Fashion Row’s 18th Annual Runway Show and Style Awards at Cipriani Wall Street last Tuesday.
Meanwhile, SAINT International model Dru Campbell made a splashy arrival in the City That Never Sleeps after three triumphant designer show seasons at Milan and Paris Fashion Weeks.
Campbell opened Off-White’s creative director Ibrahim Kamara’s ‘Pop Romance’ collection show on Friday afternoon, after appearing on the runway for Calvin Klein earlier that morning.
A day earlier, the SAINT hit the catwalk for quintessential American designer Michael Kors’ Spring/Summer 2026 show, which was held at Manhattan’s Terminal Warehouse.
