It was a night of history, grace, and gratitude as Misty Copeland took her final bow with the American Ballet Theatre at its Fall Gala at David Geffen Hall in New York. The company made a rare exception, aligning its annual gala with the farewell of the trailblazing dancer whose decade as ABT’s first black female principal reshaped the institution’s legacy.
The audience — filled with stars and admirers — rose in celebration of Copeland’s artistry and influence. Jamaicans will remember her 2018 visit, when she performed and led workshops with Plié for the Arts and Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts. Here are the highlights.
