While most eight-year-olds spend their weekends playing with toys or watching cartoons, Lake Anthony spends his chasing change and warming hearts. With genuine compassion, he spearheaded a webpage that highlights charities and entities providing relief after Hurricane Melissa, giving people a hub to support the various efforts. The young entertainer from Chico, California, told GoodHeart that he started the initiative to help Jamaica in its time of need.

“Jamaica needs a lot of help right now, and I made jamaicaneed.com to [do so]. I really love Jamaica so much and the hurricane damaged it. It’s such a small country and it needs so much help,” said Lake Anthony, who has visited the island four times.

In a video posted on his personal Instagram, @lakeanthonymusic, a week ago, the young musician was seen singing a rendition of Busy Signal’s popular 2014 track, Jamaica Love, as part of the launch to the webpage.

We love Jamaica and they need you now/ I know in my heart God is showing you how, to give a lot of love to the land of Jamaica,” he sings.

“We launched the website last Friday. It is like a Linktree where we have advertised different charities which will take you to other websites where you can help to donate,” added Lake.

The youngster was preparing for his fifth cruise trip, but the hurricane halted those plans and forced him to go elsewhere.

His love for Jamaica can’t go unnoticed, as, for the little island lover Lake, compassion is not something that he only learns but also lives.

“I have been doing some commercials and have been saving up some money. I want to give US $2,000 of my savings and help donate to Jamaica towards those affected,” he added.

Having already warmed the hearts of people on social media, at age six, Lake Anthony went viral when he performed Gimmie Likkle One Drop by reggae artiste Tarrus Riley.

“One of my favourite lines in the song is ‘ You see the woman dem a dem we ah pree’. I have been singing that song for a longtime now!” he explained.

IN AWE OF THE CULTURE

Fascinated with the island, Lake and his family have visited Montego Bay, Nine Mile, Bob Marley’s house in St Ann, and several beaches. When asked what he loves most about Jamaica, he said he is in awe of the culture.

“I love that Jamaica invented reggae music, which is one of my favourite kinds. The country is a fun place to hang out. I love the food, especially the beef patties; it is yummy,” he said, adding that he also loves the beaches.

“I love Patois. My favourite thing to say is ‘wah gwan?’, and ‘I and I ‘. They (Jamaicans) might have invented some of the best music I have ever heard in my life,” added an expressive Lake Anthony.

In the company of a few Jamaican celebrities, he highlighted spending a day with reggae artiste Tanya Stephens in Ocho Rios and performing on stage with Tarrus Riley on a cruise. He also said he admires sprint legend Usain Bolt, noting,“He is like one of the fastest people in the world!”

The talented musician is currently working on a song titled What the World Needs Now is Love, with musical artiste Jemere Morgan, son of Gramps Morgan.

With some sections of the island ravaged by the hurricane, resulting in a setback, it has led Anthony to want to give words of encouragement.

“I would tell them that they are not alone, and that they have other people to help. I know that they can get through this hard time and I wish them the best,” he said.
