For eight years, Andre Hudson has been pulling his twin brother Andrew in front of the camera every birthday, turning what began as a simple photoshoot into a cherished celebration of their bond.

Now celebrating their 44th birthdays, the Montego Bay brothers have transformed the annual ritual into a celebration of brotherhood, using carefully styled photographs to capture a connection they admit is not always easy to put into words.

“We are not a very expressive set of twins, but we are creating memories while bonding. Growing up together, we didn’t always agree on everything, but at the end of the day, you can see the brotherly love,” Andre said, highlighting the strong sense of security and support they provide each other.

“Personally, I feel safe and secure when he’s around. He can always call on me to assist him, whether it’s with his friends or colleagues, especially with anything pertaining to my career path,” the younger twin by four minutes added.

For the brothers, the photoshoots have become a kind of shared language, a way to create lasting memories and communicate with each other and the world without necessarily having to say much. Andre brings the energy, while Andrew brings a quieter presence. Somewhere between the two, however, is the chemistry that has kept their birthday tradition alive for eight years.

The twins may share an unmistakable resemblance, but their professional journeys have taken different paths. Andrew is steadily climbing the ranks of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF), where he currently serves as a sergeant in the Office of the Commissioner of Police. Andre, meanwhile, is well known in corporate Jamaica as the regional business development manager at Royalton Hotels and Resorts, a role that has placed him in a very different professional environment.

Despite their contrasting careers and personalities, their lives continue to intersect in unexpected ways, something they have become accustomed to as twins.

Their annual photoshoot is one of those intersections. From coordinated prints to polished, contemporary looks, the Hudson twins have made fashion an unmistakable part of their birthday tradition. “We don’t have a theme. We just pull together in matching outfits that are trendy for the season. The main purpose is creating lifetime memories, so we can reflect on them in the future,” Andre said.

For Andre, fashion is also a way of drawing his more reserved brother out of his comfort zone. More extroverted by nature, he encourages Andrew to embrace the experience, experiment with his style and enjoy the moment.

For Andrew, the collaborative nature of the photoshoot is marked by fun, laughter and a shared sense of enjoyment. “It is good vibes. It is a unifying force for us. It creates a sense of cohesion,” Andrew said, adding that Andre is the mastermind behind organising the annual shoots. “Like Andre, I too believe it always creates a stronger bond with us because we don’t usually show emotions a lot. It really pulls us together in that regard.”

Andrew sees the tradition as more than a birthday ritual. The photographs are also a visual record of their journey – a reflection of growth, togetherness and prosperity. The Hudson brothers’ unique connection is rooted in a humble upbringing and the example set by their parents, whose hard work helped shape the men they have become.

While their personalities differ, that contrast appears to complement rather than divide them. Andre is the more outgoing twin, often encouraging Andrew to step beyond his reserved nature, while Andrew offers a quieter, steady presence. Together, they have developed a rhythm that allows each brother to bring something different to the relationship.

Their resemblance, however, has occasionally created its own challenges. Being twins has often led to them being mistaken for one another. As teens, it resulted in situations where the actions of one were sometimes attributed to the other and, in some instances, both faced the consequences. “It can be very good and bad because I remember at Cornwall College, when one of us did something wrong, no one was willing to speak up, so we both got punished,” Andre recalled.

The confusion has followed them into adulthood, even as their careers have taken them into different circles. “In the latter years, [with] him being in the JCF, I tend to be mistaken a lot by his colleagues, while he tends to be mixed up by mine,” Andre said. Their worlds may continue to overlap, but the twins have learnt to embrace the mix-ups as another part of their shared experience.
