Education Ministry plans anti-ZIKV clean-up day for schools
The Ministry of Education says it is to undertake an islandwide clean up of schools as part of activities to mitigate against the impact of the Zika virus (ZIKV).
The ministry says Friday, February 5, will be used as its National Clean-Up Day.
It says the intention is to reduce mosquito breeding sites in schools.
The education ministry is calling for parents and other persons to participate in the school clean-up through PTAs and other community groups.
It says the National Clean-Up Day activities will include the sensitisation of parents and members of the community on the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of the Zika virus.
The ministry says schools are encouraged to partner with their parish councils, community groups and the Ministry of Health's regional offices to facilitate the successful execution of these activities.
School Administrators have been directed to submit to their regional office a list of the required resources to support the clean-up exercise by tomorrow.
