Sections of St Elizabeth without water due to pump theft

The National Water Commission (NWC) is reporting that the chlorination pump at its Luana facility in St. Elizabeth was stolen, leaving several customers in the parish without water.

Areas affected include Luana, sections of Black River, Middle Quarters, Baptist Road, Spring Park, Newton Town and surrounding areas.

"The NWC is again to absorb the cost associated with replacing a critical piece of equipment as unscrupulous individuals continue to target the agency and obstruct its operations," the NWA lamented in a statement.

The NWC's Vice President of Divisional Operations West Kevin Kerr expressed disappointment that dishonest persons continue to tamper with and steal equipment at the agency's facilities established to serve them.

In condemning the unlawful act, Kerr noted that “theft of NWC equipment only serves to thwart improvement efforts as the money used to replace stolen items could instead be used to continue infrastructure and system development”.
