Flash flood watch in effect for all parishes, more rains expected

The flash flood warning that was issued yesterday for low-lying and flood prone areas of Westmoreland, Hanover, St James, Trelawny and St Elizabeth has been downgraded to a flash flood watch, the Meteorological Service has announced.

The Met Service also says that the flash flood watch already in place for low-lying and flood prone areas of all remaining parishes will remain in effect until 5 o’clock this afternoon.

It says a trough across the western Caribbean is still producing unstable weather across the region.

As a result, the Met Service says the forecast is for intermittent showers and thunderstorms -- which could be heavy at times -- to continue affecting the island, especially over central and western parishes during the afternoon.

It says flash flooding is therefore a possible in low-lying and flood-prone areas. 

A flash flood watch means that flooding is possible and residents should take precautionary measures, keep informed by listening to updates from the Met Service and be ready for quick action if flooding is observed or if a warning is issued.
