A man was killed this afternoon in Portmore, St Catherine after he reportedly fell from his motorcycle and was run over by a car.

His identity has not yet been ascertained.

The Corporate Communications Unit (CCU) of the Jamaica Constabulary Force has confirmed the incident, but says it has no details.

However, reports to The Gleaner are that two motorcycles were driving along the I-95 main road when they became entangled.

One of the motorcyclists reportedly fell from the bike and into the path of vehicles travelling in the opposite direction.

It’s reported that the driver of one car managed to avoid hitting him before he was run over by another vehicle.

It brings to 64 the number of motorcyclists killed on the nation's roadways since the start of the year.

The Road Safety Unit in the Ministry of Transport says this is 22 per cent less than the number of motorcyclists who died in crashes over the corresponding period last year.

A total of 268 persons have died in motor vehicles crashes since January 1, a three per cent decline when compared to the similar period last year.
