Vector Control Officer from the Manchester Health Department Rose-Ann Larmond demonstrates how using sheets can be used as an alternative way to cover storage containers, which will prevent breeding of the Aedes aegypti mosquitoes, which transmit the dengue fever.

The vector-control teams from Manchester, Clarendon, and St Elizabeth have ramped up their vector-control activities and public education to assist with fighting the dengue outbreak.

Public-health officials from the Manchester Health Services shared information with residents from Allison in Manchester on Wednesday on how to prevent dengue fever and eliminate mosquito breeding sites. The public-education exercise was held at the Assemblies of the First Born Church in the parish. The health team also assisted the community members with establishing a health committee that will assist in sensitising residents about dengue fever and how to destroy mosquito breeding sites.
