American superstar R Kelly has been released from jail in the city of Chicago in the United States (US) after paying US$161,000 he owed in child support.

The Cook County Sheriff's Office said the money was paid this morning and Kelly, whose real name is Robert Sylvester Kelly, was set free shortly afterwards.

He has been in custody since Thursday.

As he walked out of jail, CNN reported the Grammy-winning artiste as saying: "We're going to straighten all this stuff out."

The embattled entertainer was charged last month with ten counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, involving four alleged victims, three of whom were minors at the time of the alleged incidents.

He pleaded not guilty to all the charges and was released on bail after spending three nights in jail.

If convicted, he faces three to seven years in prison on each charge.
