NWA introduces traffic changes in Santa Cruz, St Elizabeth

Published:Monday | December 16, 2019 | 3:42 PM

Effective today, the National Works Agency (NWA) will be implementing a one-way system along Main Street, Santa Cruz in St Elizabeth.

The one-way will flow in a westerly direction between Coke Drive and Retirement Road.

Community Relations Officer for the NWA’s South Region, Howard Hendriks, explains that as a result of the traffic changes, motorists travelling from Black River, Savanna-la-Mar and Montego Bay towards Santa Cruz will now have to turn left on to the Santa Cruz Bypass at the Main Street/Retirement Road intersection.

While right turns from the Bypass on to Market Street will still be permitted, left turns on to Main Street will not be allowed.

Motorists travelling to Malvern from Lacovia can use Retirement Road or the Santa Cruz Bypass to do so.

Motorists entering Santa Cruz from the direction of Malvern will not be able to make right turns onto Main Street.

Institution Drive will be converted to a one-way flowing towards Main Street to facilitate persons entering the town center.

The new traffic arrangement which forms part of the NWA’s thrust to improve traffic flow in the town of Santa Cruz during the heightened activities of the season, will operate between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. from Mondays to Saturdays until January 6, 2020.

Main Street will revert to two-way flow on Sundays.
