Independent candidates were the first to be nominated in St Catherine North Eastern this morning.

Heading the line was Minister of Religion Kenneth Harper who is vying for the Mount Industry Division.

He was followed by Althea Cameron Mason, who is going after the Guys Hill Division.

Troja, Mount Industry and Guys Hill are the divisions in the constituency.

Nominations started on time this morning.

Candidates for the governing Jamaica Labour Party and the Opposition People's National Party are also to submit their nomination papers.

Returning officer for St Catherine North Eastern Robert Terrelonge said that the day's activities are proceeding smoothly.

"We are having a good and timely exercise, with each candidate on time so far. We hope it continues throughout," Terrelonge said.
