Excelsior Community College achieves institutional accreditation
Excelsior Community College (ECC) has achieved institutional accreditation from The University Council of Jamaica (UCJ). This achievement marks a significant milestone for the college in its commitment to academic excellence and quality assurance.
According to Philmore McCarthy, principal, Excelsior Community College, “Our hard work has been acknowledged by the external quality assurance body, the UCJ, with the prestigious award of institutional accreditation from 2021 through 2028.”
The UCJ granted the accreditation after conducting a rigorous evaluation process, recognising ECC’s adherence to strict academic standards, its dedication to continuous improvement, and its commitment to providing high-quality education to its students. ECC’s position as a leading institution of higher learning in Jamaica is now solidified and its reputation for academic excellence and integrity is further reinforced.
Creates opportunities
Dean of Internal Quality Assurance at the college, Nadine Walker, also expressed excitement at the achievement, stating, “I am so excited to bear witness to this dream. Institutional accreditation creates opportunities for students to use all tertiary-level certificates completed at the Excelsior Community College with confidence and keeps Team ECC alert, accountable and committed to exceeding the expectations of stakeholders – students, staff, employers, and others who we serve.”
ECC went through a thorough assessment to obtain accreditation. The evaluation covered ECC’s governance, academic programmes, faculty qualifications, student support services, facilities and institutional resources. By meeting the rigorous standards established by the UCJ, ECC has shown its dedication to upholding high standards in all aspects of its operations, as it continues to maintain its status as the leading community college in the Caribbean.
ECC offers a variety of programmes in various fields, including business & tourism management, computer engineering & built environment, pure & applied sciences, aesthetics & cosmetology, and humanities. These programmes are accredited and meet or exceed national standards, ensuring that students’ degrees receive national and international recognition. This recognition will make students more marketable for future prospects.
