Businessman accused of shooting son, ex-wife remanded
Seventy-four-year-old businessman and licensed firearm holder Prince Brown, who is charged for shooting his son and ex-wife in an alleged attack, was today remanded in the St Catherine Parish Court.
Brown is answering charges of wounding with intent, using a firearm to commit a felony, possession of a prohibited weapon, and unauthorized possession of ammunition.
His lawyer, Chadwick Berry, told presiding judge Desiree Alleyne that Brown, a former member of the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF), acted in self-defence.
"Your honour, he was a rifleman in the JDF and acted in the defence of his life at the time. The son in question was ordered out of the premises by the court and shouldn't be there," Berry said.
The case has been set for mention in the Gun Court on April 15.
The Clerk of Court outlined that the accused acted unlawful by shooting his son and even chased his ex-wife after allegedly shooting her.
Allegations are that about 7:20 a.m. on March 21, the complainants were at a dwelling in Angels, Spanish Town, St Catherine.
Brown is said to have attempted to overturn a piece of equipment which he bought sometime ago.
His son intervened and attempted to prevent the accused.
The woman then intervened.
Brown allegedly brandished his licensed firearm and fired shots, hitting his son in the abdomen and his ex-wife in the leg.
He is said to have fired several shots after the incident.
Both injured complainants were assisted to the Spanish Town Hospital.
The accused then turned himself in to the Spanish Town police.
He was arrested and later charged following an investigation.
