Transport Minister Daryl Vaz says the Jamaica Urban Transport Company (JUTC) is to receive an additional 100 buses in July.

Vaz, who is attending the inaugural Caribbean Spectrum Management Conference being held in Montego Bay, St James, told reporters that based on an update he received last night the buses are ready.

“The 100 buses have been finished, they are completely manufactured and they are now awaiting a shipping date which could be as early as the 7th of June which will get here sometime in the middle of July,” Vaz said.

He said the new buses will give further comfort to students when the new school term begins in September.

“Basically, we have reached the point where those buses are going to be loaded on a vessel, all of them at one time and arrived in Jamaica in July, which means we will have them ready for back to school in September,” the transport minister assured.

According to Vaz, when the buses arrive, they will bring to 170 the number of new buses added to the fleet of the JUTC since he was appointed the portfolio in 2023.
