Nickisha Pryce breaks 21-year-old record to become fastest Jamaican woman over 400m

National senior champion Nickisha Pryce is now the fastest-ever Jamaican woman over 400 metres after running 48.89 seconds to break Lorraine Fenton's 21-year-old record on Saturday.
Fenton's mark of 49.30 seconds was set in July 2002, a year after Pryce was born.
The 23-year-old Pryce, representing the University of Arkansas raced to the impressive time to win the event at the US track and field championships for colleges, the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Oregon.
Her winning time, which was a personal best, meet, collegiate, and championship record, earned her the tag as the world leader in the one-lap race.
Pryce's previous personal best was 49.32 seconds which she ran last month.
Her team dominated the 400 final, capturing the first four spots. Kaylyn Brown was second in a personal best of 49.15 seconds, Amber Anning, third (49.32 seconds) and Rosey Effiong fourth in a personal best of 49.72 seconds.
Pryce, a former Vere Technical athlete, captured her first national senior title at the 2023 championships at the National Stadium.
