Man shot and killed in alleged confrontation with police in Ferry

A St Catherine man was shot and killed during an alleged confrontation with police on Sunday in Ferry, St Andrew, and two illegal guns with 12 rounds of ammunition seized.

The deceased has been identified as Romario Thompson, a 29-year-old unemployed man from Old Harbour and Point Hill addresses in St Catherine.

About 3:30 p.m., a police team was on duty in Ferry district when members were reportedly confronted by Thompson who engaged them in a shootout.

When the shooting subsided Thompson was injured. He later died.

The police say he had a Beretta pistol and a Sig Sauer nine millimetre pistol affixed with a magazine containing 12 rounds of ammunition in his possession.

The Independent Commission of Investigations has launched a probe into the matter.
