The quick action of the St James police led to the arrest of two murder suspects and the seizure of an AR rifle and a nine-millimetre pistol following the murder of a man in Mount Salem on Thursday.

Killed was 52-year-old Donovan Hayles, otherwise called 'Pepper', a mason of Green Pond in the parish.

Reports from the St James police are that at about 9:30 a.m., lawmen heard explosions and visited the location where Hayles was seen with multiple gunshot wounds.

He was assisted to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Later that day, at about 9:45 p.m., lawmen conducted an operation in the area when an AR rifle was seized and a man arrested.

Further investigations led to the arrest of another man and the seizure of a nine-millimetre pistol.

The police say the apprehension of the two men and the seizure of the firearms underscores its commitment to maintaining law and order and ensuring the safety of the Jamaican public.
