The St Mary police are investigating the fatal shooting of a man along the Spring Head main road in Oracabessa early Sunday morning.

The identity of the deceased has not yet been released, but police sources stated that the incident occurred at approximately 3:50 am.

Reports indicate that the man had just left a social event at a local bar and was walking home with his female companion when they were ambushed by unknown assailants, who reportedly opened fire.

It is understood that residents heard several loud explosions and alerted the police.

Upon arrival, the police found the body of a man lying face down on the roadway with what appeared to be gunshot wounds to the head and upper body.

The female companion managed to escape unhurt but has not been seen since the shooting incident.

"The police are actively pursuing leads and urge anyone with information that could assist with the investigation to come forward,” said Anthony Wallace, Acting Superintendent of Police for the St Mary Police Division.

"We want to reassure residents that we are committed to maintaining safety and ensuring justice is served. Increased patrols and investigative efforts are already under way. Your cooperation is critical in our fight against crime. If you saw or heard anything, no matter how small it may seem, please reach out to law enforcement. Together, we can make our communities safer,” he added.
