Councillor appeals for Longville Park Police Station to get service vehicle
An appeal for a police service vehicle to be provided at the Longville Park Police Station in Clarendon was made at today’s monthly meeting of the Clarendon Municipal Corporation.
Councillor Scean Barnswell, who oversees the Hayes division, made a special request on behalf of Longville Park, a community within the Mineral Heights division.
He stated that the absence of a service vehicle was severely hampering the police’s ability to effectively serve the community, which has more than 30,000 residents.
The Longville Park Police Station, officially commissioned in 2017, also serves neighbouring communities such as Cock Pit, Free Town, and sections of Sandy Bay.
“The police officers are sometimes using their personal vehicles to respond to calls, and that should not be happening. I’m hoping that SSP McCalla can raise the matter with the Area Three hierarchy so we can get it addressed urgently,” Barnswell remarked.
Senior Superintendent Shane McCalla, head of the Clarendon Police, was absent from the meeting.
Barnswell also expressed concerns regarding what he described as an “unbearable stench” emanating from the sewage facility in Longville Park.
Devon Johnson, the National Water Commission’s (NWC) zone team leader, was present to address the issue.
Acknowledging the problem, Johnson said, “I understand the issue with Longville Park, and sometimes, when you drive by, it’s a little bit over the top.”
With a promise to seek a resolution, Johnson assured, “I promise you that I’m going to speak with the supervisor in charge of that plant, and whatever needs to be done to correct the problem, we will do it to ensure the citizens are comfortable.”
