The police’s Area One, which covers Jamaica’s premier tourism region, has recorded the highest reduction in crime among all police divisions in the country, a milestone achievement highlighted by Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Glenford Miller.

Miller made the disclosure on Thursday afternoon during a certificate presentation ceremony at Sandals Montego Bay, where Jamaica Constabulary Force officers from Area One, which comprises St James, Trelawny, Hanover, and Westmoreland, were recognised for completing Phase One of the Sandals Corporate University's (SCU) Leadership Training initiative.

Addressing the gathering, Miller commended the officers for their dedication and commitment to transformation.

He emphasised that St James, long considered one of Jamaica’s most crime-prone divisions, achieved a record reduction in murders last year.

This downward trend has continued into 2025, with all divisions within Area One showing significant declines in crime rates, a feat unmatched by any other police jurisdiction in Jamaica.

So far in 2025, a total of 28 murders have been recorded in Area One, compared to 61 in 2024, reflecting a 54.1 per cent reduction.

St James recorded the largest decrease, with only 12 murders this year compared to 30 in the same period last year, a 60 per cent decline.

"Since the start of this year, every division in Area One has recorded a decrease in crime, marking the highest reduction in any division within the Jamaica Constabulary Force," Miller stated.

He attributed this success to the strategic efforts of divisional commanders, rank-and-file members, and enhanced police-community partnerships.

Miller also praised the impact of the SCU Leadership Training initiative, which has equipped officers with critical skills to navigate the complexities of policing in Jamaica’s leading tourism hub.
