Ambassador Audrey Marks and Delano Seiveright pose with Governor General Sir Patrick Allen after being sworn in at King’s House on March 17. Marks was appointed to serve at the Office of the Prime Minister and Seiveright is the junior minister at the Ministry of Tourism.

Newly-minted Cabinet Minister Ambassador Audrey Marks says she is looking forward to creating new avenues to ensure that the Jamaican diaspora plays a pivotal role in the growth and transformation of their homeland.

Marks was speaking after she and newly-appointed junior minister for tourism, Senator Delano Seiveright, were sworn in by Governor General Sir Patrick Allen during a ceremony at King’s House on Monday.

“When there are 10 ambulances coming in we have to find a way to talk about how they move quickly into service, especially when they are being given,” said the former Jamaican Ambassador to the United States.

Marks, who also spoke on Seiveright’s behalf, said he was excited about this “significant honour” and platform to focus on advancing the national growth agenda, especially through deeper linkages between tourism and other sectors such as agriculture and manufacturing.

“Mission accepted! Minister Seiveright and I are fully committed,” she said.

Marks said she and Seiveright have always been solutions-oriented actors “who believe in action over bureaucracy.”

“We understand that Jamaica’s future depends on decisive leadership, strategic reforms, and a relentless drive to get things done,” she said.

Marks will serve in the Office of the Prime Minister.
