NWA to temporarily deactivate traffic signal at Providence intersection in St James
The National Works Agency (NWA) will on Thursday temporarily deactivate the traffic signal at the Providence and Elegant Corridor intersection in St James as the agency undertakes works to upgrade the infrastructure.
Consequently, the signal will be out of commission between the hours of 7:00 am and 5:00 pm.
Community Relations Officer at the NWA’s Western Region, Janel Ricketts, says that this intersection was fitted with a temporary traffic signal, following a traffic accident which severely damaged its hardware components.
Ricketts says that the maintenance work which is now being undertaken is geared at installing a permanent signal at this intersection.
This signal is one of three such electronic signals which have been targeted for improvement.
Maintenance work is also being carried out on the signals at the Leader’s Avenue and Queens Drive and the Barnett Street and Westgate intersections.
The programme is intended to improve the traffic safety mechanisms along the targeted roadways, and to improve the efficiency of the traffic signals.
Motorists should be mindful that when a traffic signal is out of commission, no one has the right of way.
As such, due care should be taken when navigating this intersection.
