The Government says the Montego Bay Perimeter Road Project in St James is now about 60 per cent complete, with approximately $24.41 billion already invested as at March 31.

The final cost is estimated to be $55.6 billion. The project is being financed by the Ministry of Economic Growth and Job Creation and the National Road Operating and Constructing Company.

The Governmnet says it is projecting to spend $12.06 billion in the 2025/26 financial year and $19.47 billion the next year as it works to complete the project.

The project includes 15 kilometres of dual carriageway from Ironshore to Bogue, which is 70 per cent complete; the Long Hill Bypass; and upgrades to West Green Avenue and Barnett Street.

Minister with responsibility for Works, Robert Nesta Morgan, says “The Montego Bay Perimeter Road Project is not just about roads—it’s about people, productivity, and the future of Western Jamaica. We are building infrastructure that will serve generations, support economic growth, and enhance safety and convenience for all.”

He says the completed works are expected to significantly benefit both commuters and businesses.

He explains that commuters will experience faster, safer journeys with reduced travel times and less congestion, while for businesses, especially those in tourism, logistics, and commerce, the improved road network will enhance access to ports, airports, and major commercial centres, increasing efficiency and reducing transportation costs.
