Spanish Town mayor pledges support for family of Kelsey Ferrigon, calls for more community policing
Mayor of Spanish Town Norman Scott has pledged to provide support for the family of nine-year-old Kelsey Ferrigon, whose body was found stuffed in a barrel at her home on Jobs Lane in Spanish Town, St Catherine on Friday night.
Scott, during a visit to the family's home on Sunday, said the assistance will be made through the St Catherine Municipal Corporation.
“Certainly, we will be assisting this family with the burial and whatever else we can do to cushion the kind of problem that they will face in the short term,” Scott said.
He added that he will be engaging with the corporation's Minority Leader, Theresa Turner-Flyn, the councillor for the Hampton Green Division, to coordinate the support.
Scott, speaking ahead of a visit to the family by Prime Minister Dr Andrew, praised the security forces but called for stronger community policing.
“From what I am gathering, the alleged perpetrator is a member of this community, and community policing would have mitigated this act,” he stated.
Scott’s comments echoed growing calls for preventive policing strategies to address community-based crimes.
The investigation into Kersley’s death is ongoing.
