The Clarendon capital, May Pen, recorded no murders during the month of May, the police have revealed.

The disclosure was made by Assistant Superintendent of Police Adrian Flemming, who was addressing Thursday’s sitting of the Clarendon Municipal Corporation.

Flemming reported that the Clarendon Police Division had also recorded a 51 per cent reduction in murders since the start of the year— a trend, which he said, reflects broader improvements in public safety across the parish.

Between January 1 and June 8, the clear-up rate for murder cases rose sharply to 75 per cent from 18 per cent last year. Flemming attributed the success to more effective investigative work and strengthened internal coordination within the police force.

Overall, major crimes have declined by 21.2 per cent, with 141 cases reported so far in 2025, compared to 171 for the corresponding period in 2024.

Rape cases have declined by 66.7 per cent, with an 80 per cent clear-up rate.

Shooting incidents have dropped by 45 per cent, with a 28 per cent clear-up rate.
