The Jamaica Public Service (JPS) says it has restored power to over 41,000 of the 50,000 customers initially impacted by strong winds across sections of Jamaica on Monday afternoon.

The JPS says the winds from the squall line threw debris, including zinc sheets, into power lines.

The most affected areas included sections of Kingston and St Andrew, St Catherine, Clarendon, Manchester and Trelawny.

The Company says it is now working to restore power to the remaining 8,857 customers who were without electricity as at 6:30 p.m. Monday.

It says its Incident Command Centre, which is working around the clock, has projected that nearly all the remaining customers will be restored by midnight tonight.

JPS is reminding members of the public to exercise caution, especially around fallen wires, and to be careful of falling debris. Customers may report outages or hazards using the JPS mobile app, website, or Customer Care Centre at 888-CALL-JPS (888-225-5577).
