Residents of Denham Town in Kingston are decrying the large pileup of garbage blocking a section of Beeston Street and are demanding immediate action.

According to residents, the area has not been cleaned for weeks, rendering the roadway impassable to vehicular traffic.

They say the unsightly and inhumane living conditions are serious concerns that must be addressed.

“We nah vote. You know how long deh so stay so? Fly, rat, roach and worms a tek over the place and everybody turn a blind eye. Ah di border that where everybody dump dem waste. We live ina the dump,” a woman who lives close by said.

Residents say the garbage pileup is a recurring problem.

“This a the worse we ever see it. No car cant drive on that section of Beeston Street. If you a walk pass you better cork yuh nose,” a male resident told The Gleaner.

They add that the issue has been raised with political representatives in Denham Town.

The National Solid Waste Management Authority (NSWMA) is responsible for public garbage collection in Jamaica.
