Head of the Kingston Eastern Police, Superintendent Michelle Campbell, says the man who was shot and killed in Rollington Town, Kingston, on Tuesday night was not a licensed firearm holder.

The deceased, identified as Kevin Johnson, also known as 'Scally', was gunned down sometime after 4 p.m. inside a house on Rollington Avenue.

He was reportedly accompanied to the premises by a woman.

Last night, The Gleaner reported that a firearm was allegedly taken from Johnson after the shooting, based on preliminary information from residents and law enforcement sources.

However, Superintendent Campbell provided clarification today, stating: “We don’t know if a firearm was taken from him… Investigation reveals that he is not the holder of a licensed firearm.”

Reports are that explosions were heard at the location, and Johnson was later found suffering from what appeared to be gunshot wounds. A firearm was allegedly taken by the attackers, along with other personal items, including electronics and cash.

Johnson was said to be a building contractor from Tavern in St Andrew. A wrecker was called to remove the vehicle he had driven to the location.

His killing has triggered an outpouring of grief in the community, where he was reportedly well known.

The police investigation is ongoing.

As of June 21, the Kingston Eastern police division recorded a 70 per cent decline in murders, with 10 homicides since the start of the year compared to 33 during the same period in 2024.
