LIAT to begin flights between MoBay and Kingston July 11
After a five-year absence, intra-island flights between Montego Bay and Kingston are set to return with the launch of LIAT Airlines' new domestic service next Friday, July 11.
The carrier will operate out of Sangster International Airport, marking a major milestone in reconnecting Jamaica’s two largest cities by air.
Shane Munroe, Chief Executive Officer of MBJ Airports Limited, made the announcement during the Airport Forum currently under way at Sangster International.
“LIAT will operate three flights per week from Montego Bay, Kingston and Antigua and Barbuda,” Munroe told stakeholders, noting that the service aligns with the airport’s ongoing push to expand regional connectivity and ease of travel for both business and leisure passengers.
The reintroduction of domestic air service is expected to be a game-changer for the island’s transportation infrastructure, reducing travel time and supporting growth in sectors like tourism, medical logistics, and commerce.
Currently, the journey between Montego Bay and Kingston takes approximately 2.5 hours by car and about 3.5 hours by bus. The LIAT flight, in contrast, is expected to take just 25 minutes, a dramatic reduction that could redefine convenience for both business and leisure travellers.
With Sangster International serving as a growing hub for regional travel, LIAT’s new service to Antigua and Barbuda also signals a broader Caribbean airlift strategy, offering greater ease of movement between Jamaica and its eastern Caribbean neighbours.
