A wanted man was fatally shot during an alleged confrontation with the police last night in Bridgeport, Portmore, St Catherine.

The police say a firearm was also recovered from the deceased, who has been identified as Oshanie 'Voshy' Davidson, of a King Weston, Lawrence Tavern, St Andrew address.

The incident occurred along Shaw Avenue in Bridgeport at 11:32.

The Gleaner understands that several operations by the St Andrew North police to nab him proved unsuccessful before last night.

According to the police, Davidson was a person of interest in relation to several murders and shootings in the Stony Hill and Lawrence Tavern.

A resident of King Weston told The Gleaner that Davidson left the community after the blood-letting, which began last year.

“We hear the news that dem kill him over Portmore. A whole heap a time police come up here and try catch him because they have it say the violence started from an incident with him and continued through him and others,” the resident said.

The resident also told The Gleaner that things have been much calmer in the King Weston for weeks now and hope that it will remain that way.

Commander for the St Andrew North Police Division Superintendent Randy Sweeney confirmed that an operation was conducted and Davidson was fatally shot.

“We believe that Oshanie Davidson was one of the person who was involved in the flare-up of violence in the King Weston and the Florence Hill areas of the division and due to the responsiveness of the police he was displaced. Acting on intelligence, the team conducted an operation in the St Catherine South police area last night. A confrontation ensued and Davidson was shot and injured, and later pronounced dead,” Sweeney told The Gleaner.

He is appealing to others in the St Andrew North division who are wanted to turn themselves in to the police.

“Do not challenge the police... We want to assure law-abiding citizens that the police remain resolute in our effort to reduce crime and violence right across the division,” Sweeney said.

The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) was notified of the fatal shooting.

As of July 3, INDECOM was probing 166 deaths at the hands of the police.

The St Andrew North police are seeking the following people:

Persons of interest:

1. Tevin Harris alias Ratty of 100 Lane, Red Hills Rd, Kgn 19 for murder.
