Applications invited for JMMB PowHERful Women in Business programme
The JMMB Group, through its SME Resource Centre, has launched the third cohort of its PowHERful Women in Business Programme, a transformative initiative designed to support women-led businesses in Jamaica and Trinidad & Tobago. This six-month programme is aimed to help these female entrepreneurs to grow.
Now in its third year, the PowHERful Women in Business Programme, centred on the theme, ‘Her Life, Her Wealth, Her Business’, offers a unique blend of personal development, business coaching, financial solutions, and professional services, all tailored to meet the specific needs of women entrepreneurs. From the very first session, participants are guided through a personalised discovery process that helps them identify their goals and unlock the tools and JMMB solutions to achieve them. The programme culminates in a final assessment that tracks the completion of key deliverables, such as strategic plans, marketing plans, cash flow projections and usage of JMMB’s curated solutions.
Since its inception, the programme has graduated 69 female entrepreneurs, many of whom have gone on to expand their operations, enter new markets, and build stronger financial foundations. Their stories are a testament to the power of community, mentorship, and access to the right resources.
Karen Cameron, director of FSC Construction Works Limited and a graduate of Cohort 1, shared how the programme helped her business overcome a major hurdle: “One of our major challenges was cashflow to fund projects. The JMMB SME Resource Centre helped us overcome this by assisting with project loans, which allowed us to acquire much-needed machinery and materials. But the impact went beyond financing; the mentorship and workshops on time management, business transformation, and financial literacy elevated our operations and played an integral role in our success.”
FINANCIAL SOLUTIONS
Participants in the programme benefit from access to discounted professional services from the SME Resource Centre’s partners, as well as exclusive financial solutions, such as savings accounts, waived point-of-sale machine rental fees for three months, discounted insurance, and pension options with a grace period. These benefits are designed to ease the operational burdens that many female entrepreneurs face, allowing them to focus on growth and innovation.
Shani Duncan-Falconer, senior corporate manager of the JMMB Group SME Resource Centre said, “This programme is for the woman who knows her business has potential, but needs the right support to take it to the next level. We’ve seen women walk into this space with big dreams and walk out with real results, more revenue, more confidence, and a clearer path forward. If you’re ready to invest in yourself and your business, this is your moment.”
The PowHERful Women in Business Programme also honours the legacy of the late Joan Duncan, co-founder of JMMB and a pioneer in Jamaica’s financial sector.
Applications for Cohort 3 are now open and will close on July 25. Female entrepreneurs across the region are encouraged to apply at: https://forms.office.com/r/zhSR0EV5tA
